The Four Most Important Things to Know About Collecting Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY
1. Capture the Serialized Golden Chocobo and Colorful Chocobo Cards!
Digital renders. Not actual cards.
Help! Our prized chocobos have escaped the pen! They're very nice birds who love Gysahl greens, so be on the lookout. We've corralled some of these chocobos into this article, and you can learn all about them in their dedicated section below.
Non-serialized versions of Traveling Chocobo are mechanically identical to serialized variants. Images are digital renderings and not actual cards. Gysahl greens will not improve your odds of opening a serialized card.
2. See Stunning Artwork on Borderless FINAL FANTASY Artist Cards
It is with great pleasure that we present the borderless FINAL FANTASY artist cards. These 10 cards feature brand-new illustrations from artists who have worked on FINAL FANTASY titles.
During the development of this release, we invited these esteemed artists to select the character of their choice from the FINAL FANTASY series and illustrate them in their own art style as a celebration of the collaboration. From 天野喜孝/YOSHITAKA AMANO to 野村哲也/TETSUYA NOMURA, these incredible artists who have contributed to the history of FINAL FANTASY have been an honor to work with.
Borderless FINAL FANTASY artist cards are available in Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY Play Boosters and Collector Boosters, appearing in both non-foil and traditional foil.
3. Relive Franchise Moments with FINAL FANTASY Through the Ages Cards
FINAL FANTASY Through the Ages showcases iconic Magic cards with FINAL FANTASY artwork. These cards form a bonus sheet for the set featuring existing artwork from the FINAL FANTASY series, which highlights artists such as 天野喜孝/YOSHITAKA AMANO and 野村哲也/TETSUYA NOMURA.
Cards from the FINAL FANTASY Through the Ages bonus sheet are available in non-foil in Play Boosters and Collector Boosters. Traditional foil versions are available in Collector Boosters.
4. Borderless Character Cards Strike a Pose
Borderless character cards celebrate many fan-favorite characters from the FINAL FANTASY series. Here, characters from the FINAL FANTASY series are depicted with a background correlating to each character's first game appearance. There are borderless character versions of cards from the main set and the Commander decks.
You can find non-foil and traditional foil borderless character cards in Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY Play Boosters and Collector Boosters. Surge foil borderless character cards appear only in Collector Boosters. Borderless character cards from the Commander set are found in non-foil and traditional foil within Collector Boosters.

This serialized Traveling Chocobo card depicts the elusive golden chocobo and is the rarest, most sought-after card from Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY. This stylish version can only be found in English-language Collector Boosters, with each copy being uniquely numbered from 1 to 77.

So, the most exclusive and elusive version of Traveling Chocobo is the serialized golden chocobo, found only in English-language Collector Boosters. Then, the swift and spectacular black chocobo, printed only in Japanese in all languages of Collector Boosters. Pink, green, yellow, and blue neon ink foil colorful chocobos appear at the same rate in all languages of Collector Boosters.
Non-serialized versions of Traveling Chocobo are mechanically identical to serialized variants. Images are digital renderings and not actual cards. Gysahl greens will not improve your odds of opening a serialized card.
Why Is the Black Chocobo Printed Only in Japanese?
"We worked closely alongside SQUARE ENIX and FINAL FANTASY VII Creative Director Tetsuya Nomura during the design of our colorful chocobo cards. The original idea featured the serialized golden chocobo along with the four colorful chocobos, each themed around the FINAL FANTASY VII chocobo-racing minigame. During development, we learned that the black chocobo was a favorite of Nomura's as it was the fastest chocobo in the original FINAL FANTASY VII minigame. Working with the SQUARE ENIX team, we developed this card as a surprise to thank him for his collaboration on this project. So, the black chocobo features a special print treatment—first pioneered in Phyrexia: All Will Be One—and is being printed only in Japanese as a nod to this story for Tetsuya Nomura."
—Zakeel Gordon, product architect for Magic: The Gathering—FINAL FANTASY
